am using Jade under 10.1.1 now, and while it seldom crashes at launch any more, it now displays a big ugly white stripe at the top during slide shows. Anyone know how to stop this?

1.2 dropped into my DOCK on Os 10.1.1. It runs, as it always has over the years, quickly, providing easy access to files as singles or batches or with its simple but effective slideshows. I use Jade both to preview files, taking notes about later processing and to enjoy old batches of pics. Does anyone know how to make a Jade slideshow transportable, that is so it will work on a CD?

I say "fault tolerant," I mean of JPEG markers, types, etc. JADE will open more JPEGs than any other viewer I've seen. There are actually subtle differences between one JPEG and the next, depending on which app compressed and wrote the file, and how. JADE is very lax about opening files that some viewers insist are "corrupted." As for stability, I've used it on all 5 power macs I've owned, from system 7.6 to 9.0.4 and it's always been rock solid for me.

creator of jade 1.2 you are a sex god. before you there was jpeg view, with its strength in zooming and stability. jade changed the world for graphic-addicted mac users--users who knew even then that their stand in the OS ubiquity war was going to be a lonely one--when you brought us key-assignable file sorting. bless you for that, mac. i recently updated my system to OS 9.2.1 because my pismo G3 500 wants it and so does FinalCut Pro 2. mac, Version 9.0.4 didn't really understand jade 1.2. they are from different worlds. a cross-generational suspicion set in between the two from the time they met. but they got along, they made it work. i'm sorry to say that OS 9.2.1 and jade 1.2 can hardly stand the sight of one another. i'm in a position where i really have to want to try to love OS 9.2.1. i'm living in rural thailand, you see. mac, no one understands jade 1.2 like you do; you can talk to her and bring her to understand OS 9.2.1. Maybe, in time, even OS X. but 9.x should be a small fix, and i humbly request you make it for us. for us all, mac... for the tattered mac minions. we stand at your door in orange robes, wooden bowls uplifted, grateful to be asking for rice.

time I double-click on an image which has Jade as its creator, Jade opens it and promptly quits unexpectedly. Opening Jade alone and then opening the file works fine. Bu-u-ugggyy.

great! Finally makes old JPEGView completely obsolete - Jade is extremely much faster, decodes very large (and many) jpegs without large memory requirements, decodes also jpegs that have been optimized with modern tools, where JPEGView would just erroneously claim they are corrupt. Has full screen mode, slide show, and the other basic features.

of programs that purport to facilitate image organization, but so far nothing beats Jade for quick filing of large numbers of image files. As "scarabic" mentioned, Jade is rock-solid on Mac OS up to 9.04. Sadly, it doesn't support PNG, and it has problems on my Blue Dalmation, but I still have yet to find anything nearly as perfect as this > 4 year old tool. Kudos to the author, and here's hoping he's working on a PNG/Carbon edition!

almmost every day. It is by far the fastest and most fault-tolerant JPEG viewer for the Mac and has been for years. Its simplicity of use, effective application of virtual memory, extensive prefs, impressive slide show, and filing options put it so far over the top of any other lightweight image viewing app out there for mac or windows. It's also held up very well through the last few major updates to the MacOS. The last update that versiontracker.com shows for Jade is in 1996, which would be pre-OS8, and on up through 9.04 it worked as advertised with no problems. I can't recommend JADE enough to anyone who deals with large numbers of JPEG, PICT, and GIF images and needs to quickly view and file them. It's an indispensable tool.
