Product Description:

iCab is a new web browser for the Macintosh. The development of iCab is not finished at the moment, some features of the final version are missing. But you can try the iCab Preview at the download page. In the next few months better versions of iCab will be offered on our site. After the first final release, we will offer "iCab Pro" for $29. You will also be able to download a version for free.

What's new in this version:

  • It is now possible to define key shortcuts for all search engines which are configured in the "iCab preferences > Searches > Internet Sites". The key shortcut is one letter (upper/lower case does matter) that can be entered in the location field of the browser window to search something with this search engine.
This works the following way: First enter the key shortcut, followed by a space character and followed by the search keywords. For example if you've configured the letter "g" for google.com you can enter "g iCab" in the location field to search for iCab using the search engine google.com.
  • Because of a bug in MacOSX 10.2.x parts of the text does overlap when printing web pages. A workaround will avoid this new bug of the MacOSX.
  • The Reload button does only reload files which have changed on the server. Only if you hold down the SHIFT key while clicking the Reload button, all files will be loaded from the web, regardless if they have changed or if they have not changed.
  • The Web Cache and the image cache (and some other components) were completely replaced by new routines. Because of this iCab is now much faster (depending of the page). Also see the file "iCab 2.9 Documentation"

iCab ReviewHorrible! Glaciers move faster! - Version: 3.0.5, 7/30/2008 02:40PM PST

westbankal
I keep finding glowing reviews for this awful browser. They can't possibly be talking about the same thing. Absolutely the slowest browser in the universe for mac classic. For some reason I go back to it about once a month to see if anything has changed.
I'm running a G4 with a gig of memory on OS9.2.2 and this thing takes over 10 minutes to load a google page. Sometimes. Oh, and the shareware notice comes up every time you open it, too. I can't believe anyone running classic has ever actually paid.
The best I've been able to find is WaMCom aka Mozilla 1.3.1...Fortunately I have OSX on my machine (but practically no software for it) for those times that sites just won't work in classic.
Why oh why won't somebody develop something that works all the time on a classic mac?
Avoid this turkey.

iCab ReviewI can pour molasses faster! - Version: 3.0.5, 6/16/2008 08:31PM PST

modingo
This is no longer usable. Slow and crashes after non-use if the page you leave it on hass RSS feeds. Not modern enough for todays web. Will go back to Netscape 7.02 when on a classic MacOS machine
