Product Description:

iCab is a new web browser for the Macintosh. The development of iCab is not finished at the moment, some features of the final version are missing. But you can try the iCab Preview at the download page. In the next few months better versions of iCab will be offered on our site. After the first final release, we will offer "iCab Pro" for $29. You will also be able to download a version for free.

What's new in this version:

  • Because of a bug in Mac OS X 10.2 the mouse cursor was sometimes displayed in wrong colors.
  • Downloads were passed twice to external helper applications under Mac OS X 10.2.
  • Under Mac OS X 10.2 the Quicktime plugin was not recognized anymore.
  • A bug in the finder of Mac OS X 10.2 prevents that you can move partial downloads to the trash can. To delete such files other applications must be used. Now iCab will remove the "partial" status from these files when the download is aborted so that the finder is able to delete such files again.
  • Scrolling horizontally using the scroll wheel is now supported under Mac OS X 10.2 (hold down the shift key to scroll horizontally).
  • Some other modifications for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar)
  • Since Mac OS X 10.1.5 you can enable the Quarz text rendering in icab (in the very first preferences panel of the preferences dialog)
  • You can now enable a DNS cache (Preferences > Network > HTTP, DNS) to reduce the connections to the name server.

iCab ReviewHorrible! Glaciers move faster! - Version: 3.0.5, 7/30/2008 02:40PM PST

westbankal
I keep finding glowing reviews for this awful browser. They can't possibly be talking about the same thing. Absolutely the slowest browser in the universe for mac classic. For some reason I go back to it about once a month to see if anything has changed.
I'm running a G4 with a gig of memory on OS9.2.2 and this thing takes over 10 minutes to load a google page. Sometimes. Oh, and the shareware notice comes up every time you open it, too. I can't believe anyone running classic has ever actually paid.
The best I've been able to find is WaMCom aka Mozilla 1.3.1...Fortunately I have OSX on my machine (but practically no software for it) for those times that sites just won't work in classic.
Why oh why won't somebody develop something that works all the time on a classic mac?
Avoid this turkey.

iCab ReviewI can pour molasses faster! - Version: 3.0.5, 6/16/2008 08:31PM PST

modingo
This is no longer usable. Slow and crashes after non-use if the page you leave it on hass RSS feeds. Not modern enough for todays web. Will go back to Netscape 7.02 when on a classic MacOS machine
