Product Description:

iCab is a new web browser for the Macintosh. The development of iCab is not finished at the moment, some features of the final version are missing. But you can try the iCab Preview at the download page. In the next few months better versions of iCab will be offered on our site. After the first final release, we will offer "iCab Pro" for $29. You will also be able to download a version for free.

What's new in this version:

  • All entries in the favorites toolbar can be rearranged directly in the toolbar. Just drag an entry to a new position and hold down the Option key at the same time. Dragging URLs into the favorites toolbar will insert the URLs at the drop location in the favorites toolbar
  • The Hotlist, Download Manager and History windows do now use header buttons for their list data that is compatible to the appearance of the MacOS. The columns can be resized, rearranged and reordered by drag & drop. You can also hide all columns that you don't need (just control-click on the headers and choose in the contextual menu which column you want to see and which one you want to hide). Like in the Finder the "Title" ("Filename" in the Finder) column will be alwas the first one and can't be switched off. iCab will show the URL of the entry under the mouse in the status bar of the window, so you'll be able to see the URL even if the column with the URL is hidden. Each window does contain a toolbar with additional informations or with important functions/buttons (which are also available through the contextual menu). This toolbar can be hidded by the "toolbar" button in the top right of the window under MacOSX or with the triangle button in the status bar under MacOS 7-9. In the Hotlist and download manager you can sort the window by clicking on the list header buttons. To avoid to sort anything by accident, you can configure iCab (in the first preferences panel of the preferences dialog) to sort only if the Option or Command key is also pressed (this is the default). In the hotlist and history window you can open all folders in new windows
  • Now the entries in the download manager window can be sorted, you can also reorder the entries manually by Drag & Drop. The Start button of each entry was removed. To start downloads, just select some entries and click the "Start" button in the toolbar of the Download-Manager
  • Registered and personalized copies of iCab do now also look for new beta versions when they check for iCab updates (manually or automatically. See the "help" menu "Check for iCab Update"). Registered users of iCab should now use this function to get notifications about new beta versions (if interested in beta versions)
  • It is now possible to open a link in a new background window using the contextual menu
  • "View" in the contextual menu of the download manager is replaced by "Reveal in Finder"
  • iCab supports the "Content-Disposition" HTTP header which is often used to define a filename for downloaded files
  • Selecting entries in all lists (History, Hotlist, Download Manager, etc.) is now conforming to the MacOS standard. This means that Command-Click adds/removes an entry to the selection, Shift-Click adds a whole area to the selection. Unfortunately Apple didn't respect its own rules in the Classic Finder (MacOS 9 and earlier), so I fear there willl be some confusion. But because the new MacOSX finder does now respect Apple's own rules, at least the MacOSX users should be already familar with the new behaviour of iCab

iCab ReviewHorrible! Glaciers move faster! - Version: 3.0.5, 7/30/2008 02:40PM PST

westbankal
I keep finding glowing reviews for this awful browser. They can't possibly be talking about the same thing. Absolutely the slowest browser in the universe for mac classic. For some reason I go back to it about once a month to see if anything has changed.
I'm running a G4 with a gig of memory on OS9.2.2 and this thing takes over 10 minutes to load a google page. Sometimes. Oh, and the shareware notice comes up every time you open it, too. I can't believe anyone running classic has ever actually paid.
The best I've been able to find is WaMCom aka Mozilla 1.3.1...Fortunately I have OSX on my machine (but practically no software for it) for those times that sites just won't work in classic.
Why oh why won't somebody develop something that works all the time on a classic mac?
Avoid this turkey.

iCab ReviewI can pour molasses faster! - Version: 3.0.5, 6/16/2008 08:31PM PST

modingo
This is no longer usable. Slow and crashes after non-use if the page you leave it on hass RSS feeds. Not modern enough for todays web. Will go back to Netscape 7.02 when on a classic MacOS machine
