of these for my parents as it was supposed to be free after rebates... Turns out I would not even pay $0 for one of these pieces of crap. (Deskjet 648C). Problems include horrible quality and type printing errors. I have a Epson Stylus 740, myself, and it is 100 times better (and only a little more expensive).

HP Deskjet 800 drivers working finally on my G4 400 running MacOS 9.1. I have a Deskjet 870Cxi connected via an AppleTalk adapter to the Ethernet port on my G4. The solution seemed a bit tricky, but it worked for me under MacOS 9.0.4 and 9.1. Click on the HP Developer Page - Product Info link found on this review page. Go to the bottom of the HP Support page and click on the link for more information. The next page gives step by step instructions on how to install the HP DJ800 drivers under MacOS 9.x. Follow the instructions carefully. Note that you must first remove all HP extensions from both the Extensions and the Extensions Disabled folders first, and restart your Mac, before installing the HP drivers. Do not select the HP printer in the Chooser until after the updater is installed. This procedure updated my drivers to 9.4.2 and they are working just fine now on my G4. Not the most elegant solution, but it solved my printer problems.

to 9.0.4, I spent a half a day trying to install this upgrade and get my HP DeskJet 800C working on a G3/333. Now I find that it doesn't work anyway. Wonderful.
