Product Description:

Helix RADE (Rapid Application Development Environment) enables the creation, deployment and maintenance of customized solutions to information management problems on the Macintosh platform, via a proprietary graphicaldevelopment environment that does not require traditional programming skills.Helix RADE, the development tool, gives the user complete capability to develop applications that can range from a simple, single user, to a complex, multi-user. Applications developed with Helix RADE can be executed in single user mode without any additional software, and can be deployed in client/server mode without modification. Since Helix single user system contains the complete development environment, the initial cost for production software can be very low. Should the business or application requirement grow, the application can be deployed into the client/server environment by merely purchasing the server and appropriate number of client licenses.

What's new in this version:

In all, new to the Helix environment in version 5.1 are 4 new features, 26 usability improvements, 14 functionality changes, 7 bug fixes, 9 terminology changes that bring significant functional nomenclature in line with the rest of the modern computing world as well as various improvements to specific products in the family, such as the inclusion of a set of AppleScripts that will allow a network manager to gracefully shut down a Helix server and its clients from a remote location.

The best relational database I have ever used on the Mac. I am customer 269 and bought the initial software a week or two after it was first introduced.

I've tried to keep up with upgrades and see that I am one behind. I will correct that.

I presently have about 25 relations in use at this time.

This new version of Helix, which includes the development RADE program as well as Client/Server and Runtime modules is a big step forward, with marked improvements in networking and stability. Nothing comes close to Helix for the amatuer programmer and even those with programming skills easily get hooked. The developers have promised an OS X version which will bring Helix into the modern Mac era. While I know the Helix Old Timers will flock to this program, I would also recommend it to 'newbies' who want a development environment that they can actually use!
