TinyBooks Commentarytrying to figure app out - Version: 5.0.0, 7/6/2007 06:52AM PST

I can't find any way to contact the company or Ken or whoever supports TinyBooks, there's no address, phone or even email link on their web site.

None of the documentation notes whether or not checks can be printed and bills paid from within the application.

Does anybody know?

TinyBooks ReviewDon't knock it till you've tried it - Version: 3.0.7, 8/15/2006 02:24PM PST

I run two small businesses here in the UK, and have been maths phobic since my schooldays. I've tried both Quicken and MYOB and they are not intuitive enough for someone who dislikes swirling around in figures and invoices, and who doesn't have hours and hours spare to learn them and tailor them to my work.
I downloaded Tinybooks and literally within 5 minutes began putting my accounts together. I now spend less than 15 minutes per day inputting my 'ins and outs' and I have everything at my fingertips. I have had only two queries and Ken was right back at me with the answer the same day.
Compared to what my local accountant quoted me, I've now saved myself £440 this year alone - and my self generated tax return sailed through.
Try it - If you don't download it, you won't know what we're all talking about.

TinyBooks ReviewJust Great - Version: 3.0.4, 2/22/2006 09:28AM PST

This program is just great. Easy to use and quite comprehensive. Gets rid of the burden of accounts in the simplest of ways and is ideal for a tiny business. Good price too. Just get rid of that awful icon that looks terrible in the OS 10.4 dock!

TinyBooks ReviewExcellent for International Usage - Version: 3.0.2, 1/3/2006 11:42PM PST

I must agree with previous commentaries. This program is GREAT. I am a sole trading consultant operating in the UK with over a turnover in excess of $500,000. I had looked everywhere for a neat, easy to use book-keeping program and this is definatly it. The fact that it is customisable for almost every occastion and situation (including international usage) is what makes it such a hit with me.

My only wish was a way of associating sales tax to income and have the program calculate how much tax I have to pay. I emailed the developer who was great at corresponding with me and taking my wishes on board for potential future development.

If you are looking for something simple that is not bloated with features and does the job. THIS IS IT!

TinyBooks ReviewGreat Little Bookkeeper & support - Version: 3.0.0, 7/12/2005 04:16PM PST

I just had to reply to these people bashing a program they haven't even tried. I have been using this program for over 2 years & LOVE IT! Before this I used Quickbooks and HATED it (this coming from a professional bookkeeper, I specialized in Peachtree Bookkeeping for large companies). Of course my new small business didn't need those bells and whistles. At the time Quickbooks & MYOB were my only Mac options. On both systems you had to go through 3 steps to do one thing. Just poorly designed. I tried both and went with Quickbooks. 6 months later I started looking for another option out of pure frustration. I found Tinybooks and never looked back.

I am a small internet based business with a lot of odd accounts due to foreign sales and commissions. This program handles everything for me and more in a very simple and straight forward manner. It isn't complicated. You dont have to be a bookkeeper to understand and use it. You have an income you enter it in, you pay an expense enter it in. I can see at a glance my expenses, income, net income etc... for any given time.

My first year I used the chart of accounts that came with it and did my own taxes from the figures. This last year I am a lot bigger so I created my own chart of accounts and handed the print outs to my accountant. Still it is so very easy and does everything I need and then some. Still haven't had to hire a bookkeeper. If I had stayed with Quickbooks I think I would have had to just due to the time involved in using that program.

It is a steal at $49. So before posting negative feedback the least you could do is try it. That is just plain wrong. It isn't fancy but who needs fancy. I needed simple and affordable, Tinybooks delivers that.

Yes Ken is always sending updates everytime he fixes something or adds a function. I applaud him for that. I don't have to wait 2 years for a major upgrade. It shows he is dedicated to improving this software and he does a great job at that and at supporting it. Kudos Ken!

TinyBooks ReviewGreat Developer - Version: 2.0.5, 8/31/2004 03:10PM PST

TinyBooks, like the rest of Ken's Mac software (including his family-friendly games), has done exactly what it says and has always been competently supported by one of the best, small, Mac-friendly developers we have. I agree with User 44. Ken is great to deal with and should have support from TinyBook users, not derision from non-users. TinyBooks itself is as advertised. Simple for small businesses. it works and cost less than more elaborate programs whose features are not needed by many people. I started with Ken's simple games some years ago, and will try almost anything he writes.

I have been using this program for several months, starting with the previous version.
I am a relatively new Mac user (switched from PC a little more than a year ago) and was looking for a simple accounting program to replace the one I used on my PC.
The Quick Books software that came included on my Powerbook was way too complicated and elaborate and not very user friendly. After searching around the web I came across Tinybooks and tried out the free-use version. I found it easy to use and perfect for my needs. I then ordered it and have been using it with great satisfaction ever since. I am a sole proprieter of a small business and Tinybooks is perfect for my needs. It is easy to use and works without a hitch. Perhaps the best part about Tinybooks is its creator. Ken is always available to answer questions on a moment's notice. He has guided me during intial set-up and can always be counted on to reply immediately to any questions. Best of all, he's always receptive to any user suggestions for improving the program and has frequently incorporated these into upgrades. Now that's service! Try asking Quicken to add a feature to their software.
If you are a small business owner and need an easy, uncomplicated and reliable accounting program, this is perfect.

TinyBooks CommentaryI tried it and I like it! - Version: 2.0.4, 7/19/2004 11:01AM PST

It is easy to criticize without actually having the courtesy or taking the trouble to try something. And frankly whether I like a product or not; agree or disagree as to its worth - I would have the respect and honor the efforts someone has made in creating something - I think there is a difference between offering constructive criticism about a program and simply being critical and contemptuous.

I did download and try out the program. And I intend to give it a shot over the next month in my part-time consulting business. As the author states quite clearly it is a very simple program - it does just what I want - simply and clearly track income and expenses. As a sole proprietor or consultant I would recommend giving it a try.

By the way - I do not know or have any relationship with the author of this program.

TinyBooks CommentaryA Note from the developer of TinyBooks - Version: 2.0.0, 4/19/2004 06:30AM PST

Hi. For better or worse, I'm the developer of TinyBooks. I'd like to comment about some of the comments I've seen here...

One person said..."This developer puts out a press release every month with an "udpated" version that has nothing but like one change in it." My reply: Since when is this something bad? If you wrote a program, and found and fixed a bug, or added a new feature (even just one) would you not want to let others take advantage of that new update as soon as possible. I would. And, I act accordingly.

The same person wrote..."He calls this a "major upgrade", yet it only has minor change (windows now resizable, yay!) in it. Where is all the new functionality? This is a joke." My reply: This IS a major upgrade, and the commenter chose to mention a single fix only and apparently has not looked any further. There is a lot of new functionality in this major upgrade including a new type of report (full transaction export), a printed Interim Mieage Form, support for recurring expenses and income items, additional "on-the-fly" totals, and more.

Another person wrote..." I haven't tried the app, but looking at the size of the download..." My reply: For one, please don't take the word of someone who has not tried the program. (Why does this person even bother to comment!) And, please don't assume that because a program is small in size, that it is somehow not worthy of being used. Efficiency is a pro, not a con. Maybe this commenter might actually try TinyBooks one day.

Another person writes..."but the UI under Mac OS X is horrible!" My reply: Well, unfortunately that person is probably close to the truth. TinyBooks was actually originally written (privately, for my own use on my own taxes) in the days before graphic interfaces, and some of its outdated heritage shows through. But, I am (maybe too slowly) improving its interface with each update. I actually appreciate feedback like this, because it encourages me to improve my programs.

Anyway, for those reading this comment, please don't take the advice of people who haven't even tried the program, or worse yet, have an agenda of their own. All programs that I offer, are free to try, and you won't find better, more personal support, anywhere. THANKS!
