Product Description:

PostArmor (formerly known as MailArmor) is an application that helps to keep your electronic mailbox free of unsolicited e-mail, better known as spam: it looks at the relevant parts of your email before it leaves the mail server, and lets the legitimate messages pass through undisturbed, while leaving suspect messages on the server to be reexamined later or just deleted after a while. It works as an email proxy, with support for POP and IMAP, that makes it independent from the e-mail client. As it has been developed in Java, it is also independent from the operating system or platform.

What's new in this version:

  • Changed package & application name(!) The new name is PostArmor.
  • The score for blacklists has been changed to 90, so that they're not deleted automatically by default.
  • Reading messages has been modified to be buffered, so that download speed is increased.
  • Mail evaluation has been moved to several small threads, so that the software doesn't hang anymore waiting for a result.
  • Blacklist results (both positive and negative) are maintained in a local cache for a week, to minimize network traffic on frequent checks.
  • OSIRUSOFT blacklists have been added.
  • Most icons are radically different (and hopefully with a little more style) & all fonts have been reviewed.
  • All windows have been reviewed for size.
  • Reserved account names are checked to avoid conflicts.
  • Report email has now a trigger value, so that it can be sent after a given quantity of messages are on hold.
  • More data on messages are saved: it's now always possible to see the evaluation results.
  • If the connection fails during autocheck, the failure is silent (before an alert was popping up).
  • A bug that was deleting expired messages even when good has been corrected.
  • A bug that caused errors while checking several POP accounts at the same moment has been corrected.
  • A bug for crashing on an empty (non-null) password has been corrected: now an error is reported to the email program.
  • A bug that was jamming the filters' list while deleting a set has been corrected.
  • The software now performs a smarter Garbage Collection.

communicating with the author and the situation is like this; MacOS9 will be the only major OS without Swing (OSX has it). There is an attempt from an Italian university to create an alternative to it, though, but the result lies in the future. So, it's either to get it now or to wait until you move to X, if you want to use this app or any other which needs Swing. (This is the first I've come across, though)
