Product Description:

iSwipe searches AND downloads from the Web, and the FTP, Hotline, Napster, OpenNapster and Gnutella networks. It also searches the Carracho network. It includes a download manager, featuring retries and resumable downloads, and 4 slots each for FTP, HTTP, Hotline and Napster downloads (Gnutella downloads use a HTTP slot). It also includes an AutoSearch feature, which keeps a list of those elusive files that you want and can never find online.

What's new in this version:

Welcome to iSwipe 1.6, which includes compatability with more networks and protocols than ever before, including FastTrack , eDonkey, OpenNap, Gnutella, Hotline, FTP, Web and now BitTorrent.
  • BitTorrent
BitTorrent is a protocol optimised for speed, and is intended for large downloads. To use it you need to drop a torrent URL, or a torrent file onto the download window. The BT search engine is not quite ready, but you can get BT files from eg. www.suprnova.org, www.suprnova.tk.

You are currently limited to one BT download at once, and strongly advised to turn all other networks off (eg OpenNap, Gnutella, giFT, MLDonkey). BT is designed to saturate your upload and download channels, stopping most other internet activity from working (eg. Web browser or Mail requests may "time out")
  • Unexpected Quits
Version 1.6 also contains more GUI changes, speed and stability improvements. (I now know what is causing those "Unexpected Quits" - I've fixed most, but any remaining ones will get fixed as soon as possible, and then I plan to finally remove iSwipe's beta status!)
  • New Compiler
There are now additional versions available built with RealBasic's new v5 compiler, and those builds have the "NC" label. The OSX build sports a Brushed Metal interface. You might want to give these versions a try!
  • Moving of Cache folder
The "iSwipe Cache" folder in Preferences has moved to "Application Support/iSwipe/Cache" folder (/Library/Application Support/iSwipe/Cache" on OSX). If you have lots of incomplete downloads you can move the contents of the old "iSwipe Cache" folder into the new Cache folder.

iSwipe ReviewNot recommended for OS9 - Version: 1.7.2, 3/1/2005 06:39PM PST

gmanno
If you are currently using a prior version on OS9 I recommend you NOT download any 1.7 version (except the beta versions which worked for me). This app no longer functions in OS9, since 1.7.1 and including this 1.7.2. There is a Yahoo newsgroup of iSwipe users which has chronicalled the difficulties. I found upon trying 1.7.2 that my prior versions are now not functioning either! I get an error message that they have expired and the app quits.

iSwipe ReviewIndispensible but still needs a lot of work - Version: 1.7b2, 9/22/2004 11:33PM PST

gmanno
For file sharing on the Mac this has been indispensible for me, but the app remains unstable, causing my machine to crash generally every 30 to 60 minutes (plus or minus, sometimes less and sometimes more). Quite a few actions still puzzling or not well functioning. Emails to developer go unanswered despite fact that I am a longtime user and have donated. I dont know if this is planned as an interactive beta development or not. A lot of ground unanswered in the documentation also.

iSwipe ReviewWASTE OF BANDWIDTH!!! - Version: 1.6, 2/4/2004 07:01PM PST

junk!
d/l'd it chekt it out, TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!, out of 11 file sharing services they supposedly support only 2 were even available!, (even the manual, if you actually read it will tell you, you can only brouse files from "carracho" & "hotline", you cannot d/l them!!!, and to use "edonkey" you must be a registered user...of what i don't know, cause this program is supposedly free?, and that beggers the question: if you can't d/l from these services... THEN WHY IN THE HELL ARE THEY INVOLVED WITH THIS PROGRAM TO BEGIN WITH?!!!), furthermore the program claimed that out of the only 2 services that were apparently on there were "69.6 mil. files available" BULLCRAP!, the most i got in all my searches was - 1146mp3's, 14(porno) jpg's, 3 mov's, and 2 avi's!!! Bottom Line: i'll stick with "Carracho" and "Limewire",(yes the also blow big-time, but at least i can still get stuff from them that's actually worth wasting my time and processor on!!!)
