When you install this update, the pencil tool in Adobe InDesign 1.5.2 behaves more like the pencil tool in Adobe Illustrator 8.0 and 9.0. The updated pencil tool enables you to:

Reshape any path by selecting that path and then drawing on or near it.
Connect two paths by selecting both of them and then drawing from an endpoint of one path to an endpoint of the other.
Extend an existing path by selecting it and then dragging from an endpoint of that path.

careful to install these plugins as described in the readme - i wasn't... a resulting conflict fucked up my preferences. certain palettes disappeared and never came back... even removing preferences and reinstalling id didn't help. luckily i found an old set of prefs that did the job.
