Product Description:

Used to manage multiple users with Mac OS 9 installed. If you have recently installed Mac OS 9 on your computer, you already have a version of the Multiple Users software, however you should update to Multiple Users 1.4 to take advantage of bug fixes and other changes. Because of changes made to how Panel views are saved, after upgrading to this version, you may need to reset the view preferences on any users that have changed their views when using the Panels environment.

What's new in this version:

A problem has been corrected that prevented desktop themes from being properly saved and restored. Various files and folders in the System Folder are now protected from users who are logged in as Normal users. This addresses a security hole that allowed Normal users to remove the Users & Groups Data file in order to log in as the computer owner. When an idle logout occurs with the option to lock the screen, the Control Strip is hidden and the screen turns black to help ensure privacy of a user's data. If a logout is triggered, the contents of the screen reappear to allow the user to view the information and save it if necessary. The Hide/Show Control Strip hot key is not active when the logout window is showing.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS Classic

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS 9.x

it for a multi-Mac family installation. I'm still very disappointed that Multiple Users is different from the File Sharing/Users & Groups tab. Also, "Administrator" privileges don't do anything, only the Owner can actually go into the system control panels and fix stuff. Finally, it would be really useful to be able to share Apple Menu Items and to relocate User "home" folders.

mmorales: Try OS X or OS X Server. The unix core brings true multi-user functionality with complete permission control.

mmorales: Multiple Users isn't really the thing you are looking for. We had over 100 Macs on our Network at a newspaper, where different people work at the same machines in shifts. We successfully did this by using Apple Macintosh Manager in conjunction with OS X server and it is amazing. You can setup user groups with permissions to allow different people to have access to limited applications and we even went as far as to limit most people from having access to their hard-drives. They save all their data in a central place on our server and it means they can log into any computer anywhere on the network and continue working as if they were at their own desk. It aslo allows you to make a system change or application upgrade on one computer without running around the building. I Highly reccommend using this if you have a large network of Macintosh Computers. In fact give me a call - I need a job :)
