Product Description:

KeyStroke is a Multi-User Cross Media Synthesizer - a distributed application that allows multiple players to generate, synthesize and process images, sounds and text within a shared realtime environment. As an instrument it allows communities of players to dynamically control and modify all aspects of digitized media in a collaborative performance.
The premise of the KeyStroke Project is to contribute to the emerging genre of telecommunications art. It is an instrument and a communications tool - a vehicle for sending and receiving commands, pushing and blocking choices, negotiating and dictating experiments, improvising and rehearsing the realization of a sensory display - a simultaneous realtime interchange with live and formatted media.

What's new in this version:

Many changes. Bugs fixed, long standing issues resolved, user requests granted. A list of the most important ones follows. One important change is a new version of the part of the software that's not in this package: the server. We are moving towards a bit more privacy and security, and therefore stricter login procedures. At this moment you do not nessecarily have to have an account on the server you're logging in to, but you must supply a login name and a password, so you may consider registering with the server and using the name and password you entered there. Version 0.7.0 is incompatible with this new scheme and can therefore not be used with the keystroke server at serf.keyworx.org. For clarity the realizer is now called Keystroke Realizer and the patcher Keystroke Patcher. You can now double-click on a Keystroke patch file or put it in your startup folder, and the patch gets loaded correctly!
Keystroke Patcher:
- Rescan Media Dir; you can now put files in your Media directory while you are playing. After you've added the files, select RescanMediaDir from the Edit menu in the Keystroke Patcher and you can use the new files - There have been a number of changes in the Network menu; you can now change to a different space, and view the server you are currently connected to (this will launch your browser) - Via the Help menu you can now go directly to the manual and the Bulletin Board System! - The Save command now gives you a dialogbox if you haven't saved the file before..
Keystroke Realizer:
- TextRender; now works well with characters that are high in the ASCII set (like ¯ and Ê). - TextFile; now has a mode where text is outputted per word or per line, as well as a position input and a restart - Sound Input; the sound preferences are now generated on launch of the realizer, so you can select from the sources that are currently available. DV camera audio does not work yet. - Webcam; the webcam module now supports many more types of webcams, most notably multiple part jpeg camera's. A good example is http://webvideoserv.state.de.us/video.jpg?server=71&framerate=2 - for installation work, you can now disable all keyboard commands (like command-N) using the allowcontrol preference
