feedback... Who thought it would be best to default to 120%. This wipes out CSS. This was a _very_ bad idea. If you simply wanted to make it extremely obvious that your browser text and images could be resized put it at the very top of your "Read Me" if it was that important to you instead of making all of us designers look like incompetent boobs with oversized text and pixellated images. Some of my layers are not showing up though in IE 5-5.1, NN 4+ and NN 6.2.1 they appear fine. Even with your default 12pt. text it still increases the fonts size though I am using style sheets (and yes this is after I have scaled to 100%). Don't know how you managed this but this too over rides CSS styling. I keep hearing how fast Opera is.... A Volkswagen going over a cliff is fast too but ...

a toss up between Opera and iCab as to which will become the new Mac standard. They both have a lot going for them. I like iCab a little better because of two features: better ad blocking / site filtering and the little smiley face that rates a pages html code according to standards compliance. I like Opera better because it has a sleeker interface and runs a little faster than iCab. Unfortunately, MSIE is still by far the best Mac browser. Still, I look forward to the day when I can trash it. What I would like to see in Opera: customizable button bars, improved filtering/blocking, more SPEED. I'd gladly pay for a browser if it can improve on Netscrap and at least compare to IE.

I would like to see OPERA with Mail & Newsgroup features, so we can do away with MSIE entirely...and please make the menu bar customizable, in size, color, icons etc.

new interface - though it is not as colorful as the last version, the intrusive advertising panel is gone (at least temporarily) and the space wasted on the redundant and non-customizable menu element is reclaimed in a more compact design. However, I have my doubts about their claim of standards compliance. Styles display unreliably and progressive JPEGs don't progress but leave you waiting and then display all at once. Not helpful. As for speed, it launches faster than Netscape 6 but slower than Netscape 4.7x and Explorer 5x. Since web page download and display is so dependent on the vagaries of connectivity, it's hardly possible to ascertain any speed advantages in Opera. Regarding using it to test web pages, I've found that every browser has its ideosyncracies - not one of them doesn't break something the others find acceptable. As a web designer I see the Holy Grail of a truly and fully standards compliant browser as still unfulfilled. And I took off a star from my rating because the folks at Opera are now blowing smoke in our faces just like the other guys - not an encouraging development. Maybe they'll get it right eventually, but for now their claims are clearly inflated by the hype virus, a very contagious bug indeed.

a veyr good improvement from the last release I tried. Pages are downloaded and rendered very fast. The built-in search features are a nice feature and very useful, especially the Google search. Overall it is a nice browser, but the fact that you have to pay for it or they will force you to view ads is simply awful. How can they expect to find a market if they do this? Also, contrary to what the previous reviewer stated, you can import favorites from IE.

reports here: (1) http://telematics.open.ac.uk/: Confirming the black corners. (2) http://informatics.open.ac.uk/: Form submit boxes are far too long: Confirmed, one character to long. (3) The font size problem: We do it the "Mac" way, (1px = 1pt), but we are discussing doing it the Windows way (4px = 3pt), or at least add an option for it.
