Opera ReviewWorld's fastest browser?… - Version: 5.0, 11/9/2002 07:48AM PST

TMOA
Which world would that be? Testing it against both IE and iCab, it was the clear loser in speed for any previously unviewed site I attempted to connect with. A very nice clean browser, but if some company is going to use a claim as its slogan, it should be able to back it up within reason.

decent browser. Doesn't execute certain JavaScripts that NN and IE can. I appreciate the effort, however I can't switch to Opera as my primary browser when it can't handle certain sites with certain JS. In a Coke vs. Pepsi-like war, I do like the Spirtes of the world, but its not that simple here.

Opera as my primary browser almost a couple of years now, I think, since it was in beta still and what I like with it, is that it is a browser and only that. And it's fast. the tech support is good which is important as well. A drawback would be that some sites doesn't support it, but Opera can't be blamed for that, rather Microsquish, I'd say. Pages come like lightning on my G4, at least. Keep it slim!

love the options it gives the user, very customizable. Page rendering is fantastic. Much better then Netscapes browsers. This product is really a step in the right direction, great job! Great product.

if it has bombed out on me once or twice.. Impressed with the features and support, but how can anyone say this is a faster browser for older Macs? It's no faster than IE4.5 or Netscape 4.xx on my (upgraded / non G3) 6500 using MacOS 8.1 ... sorry but i will be sticking to IE 4.5 as this is the fastest browser imo

basic browser use goes Opera does a fine job. It downloads images MUCH better than Navigator does and is very fast at displaying previously visited pages. It handled some pages perfectly that gave trouble to IE 5.1. In many ways it is on a par with IE. However, it seems to lock up the Finder's access to memory so that even something simply like copy and paste can't be done. I have 256 megs of ram plus virtual on, and yet get the ol' "you must quit a program to free up memory for the Finder" message -- not good! Plus there is the cost or advertising issue. I'll keep it installed to test HTML, but the memory problem will keep me from using it day to day.

are good. Buttonset selections could be better, but the biggest point about this Browser is that they use KEYCHAIN for passwords and logons correctly! None of the other Mac Browsers do that! Congrats Opera you get 5*'s for security!

the dark about the bookmark import behavior on this browser, and, it did not render javascript on several of my usual haunts. But it is fast, and attractive (although OmniWeb is the nicest looking, IMHO). But, really, a 'final' version that chokes on javascript? Come off it....

know what I like best? I like being able to create a bookmark and have it saved inside one of my bookmark catagory folders at the same time. No need for going back later and "organizing" bookmarks. Yes, folks. Opera is the fastest! Particularly when moving back and forward through visited pages. There is no equal. There are some strange behaviors on certain forms and scripts (probably non-compliant pages), so keep a copy of the evil-side browser on hand just in case. Nuff said.

think so. Versiontracker takes forever to load on a T1! Can't make posts. It's a shame, I really wanted to find a "staple" browser for my on-line needs but Opera doesn't cut it. A nice alternative browser, but definately (and unfortunately) would not trash IE or Netscape.
