sped up menus and preview is a godsend. astephens: RTFM! You have to remove all of the Nikon View extensions and control panel, then restart to do the update.

an interesting little download. Suggest you take Arlo's advice, or, if you're still confused, hit Download Now (file size: list) link at top of page and follow directions CAREFULLY - 'cause if you don't do it right - watch out... either way it does work, so does my camera - but I can't tell you if it works any better because it worked great to begin with. Comprende?

a star because of the complicated install and because my installer crashed after updating the camera. Other then that I love the update. I would follow the link at the top of this page that links to Nikon's web site and follow the directions carefully. Basically you need to pull some extensions/control panels and restart before the updater will work. The update speeds up consecutive photo taking-very nice.

update - works fine. A couple of points for Mac installation: 1. Follow the instructions regarding the removal of certain files from the System Folder, but make sure you leave the file called "E990 Driver" in the Extensions folder. If this file isn't present during the upgrade, you will get the "camera not connected" error. 1. Before running the upgrade application, give it more memory (say 20MB). This should prevent Type 1 crashes some people have experienced during the upload.

FM did not come with the download as is usually the case. I found it later. Works great.

me too after update, but not a big problem... The installation procedure is not optimal, since you have to reboot twice - and no readme-file is included. The camera ROCKS even more after this update - saving large images (I always use "fine" resolution) to card is really zippy now. Focusing seems to be way faster too. And they finally removed that ugly "trash"-icon :) 4 stars only due to the crappy installation routine, technically a 6-star

gone without a hitch. However, in using the camera after the upgrade, it looks like it has lost its digital telefoto capability....

install this upgrade was to use the remote shutter cord, which is supposed to provide interval picture taking but does NOT!! (After 48 minutes on hold to get through to Nikon tech support to find out where the hell the instructions are to upgrade the camera I was told this is the case, plus I've confirmed it on my own). You can't use the remote shutter release without upgrading to firmware v1.1 anyway, but the interval timer is NOT supported. To save all you poor folks from trying to figure out where the convoluted yet essential instructions are that SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED with the download, here it is: http://www.nikontechusa.com/990_1_1_.html Looking for to the interval timer working in firmware upgrade 1.2!
