I am still using Virex 6.1 in Classic running 10.4.6. I was briefly unable to install DAT updates in February, until I turned SpeedScan off. Then the update installed fine.
Everything has worked until today when I attempted to install the 06-06-01 DAT update for 6.1 which failed with an error code of -48. Anyone have any ideas?

I have been trying to update my copy of Virex 6.1 for Feb.
It won't updatge because a new version of Virex has been made available.
One needs to update tpo version 6.2 I've tied by going to McAfee's site but
Can't find any update or even pourchase site for the new version. That web site is a Maze. It's difficult to find anything.
I sent an inquiry to the developer, no response. My suggestlon is find another Virus
Protection Application and forget McAfee.
Intego (www.intego.com) and Symantec (www.symantec.com) are probably the best. Macword give the former 4 mice and the latter 3 mice (the same as for McAfee)

Is the Virex 6.1 Defination Updates out yet? I've been unable to update my Virex 6.1 using eUpdates since 1st Sept '04. Can someone please advice me whether I'm still protected or I should change to another more reliable virus-protection software??? Thanks....

I have Virex 7.2.1 via a .Mac account. By default, the eUpdate in that package goes to Apple using http, who showed no updates by September 9th. However, using the ftp path directly to NAI, I got eUpdates on September 1st and again on September 8th. The September 8th update was the same as the public distribution on September 10th. The public distrubtion has been consistently a few weeks after the on-line distribution this year.

Once again, just like in June, these guys are late getting the latest virus definitions released. This time there wasn't even any holiday or its associated alchohol consumption to blame. What's up with this? Along with the SpeedScan and SnapShot features going away, is McAfee just giving up on this product for OS 9 users? Bah!

If you read the read me provided with latest 08-2004 version, they discuss there is now 6.2 version and this def file is for that. I have not seen 6.2 though. Speedscan is disabled for use now due to licensing which is not good for anyone of course. The error you get basically confirms this in addition to comments in the Read Me.

Since installing the new DAT file dated 8/1/04, virex no longer runs at its previous quick pace. It scans very slow. In addition the snap-shot feature is no longer functional. Thanks McAfee.
