Google SketchUp ReviewPoor release, poor customer service - Version: 6.0.277, 1/15/2007 05:09PM PST

The program is significantly slower that version 5. It treats groups and symbol visibility different and creats havoc with older files. I sent four emails and three phone calls about the upgrade key not working and a week later no personal response and only a note on the site "we are working on it". The previously owned company was much more custormer responsive and would never have released a version with som many bugs

Yep, that's another PPC version from Google. How long will it take them to get it to Universal?

It works great and is very easy to use. There are only a few things I would like to be different.
1. The "Follow me" tool sometimes only extends part of a circle.
2. There is no way that I can find to generate a higher quality anti-aliases rendering. Maybe they intend for people to buy the pro version and export it to rendering software or something like that, because there does have to be something left for the pro version.
3. The built in textures are too good. It only has one kind of solid wood for example. From the other things I have seen from google you might expect an texture library like they have for models, that would help a lot and would be easy for them to implement.

Kudos to Google for releasing a freeware version of SketchUp.
I've seen kids with no prior 3D experience pick this up in no
time at all and get great results and have a lot of fun learning
how to think in a new and exciting way.

Great news for kids of all ages...

Google SketchUp ReviewAwesome design tool - Version: 5.0.297, 8/2/2006 02:33PM PST

That there now is a free version of SketchUp is mind blowing. I've been eying SketchUp for years. Played with the demos from time to time, but my needs aren't professional and the cost has been prohibitive.

This is one of the very best, most intuitve and feature complete 3D design tool around. I downloaded the free version and starded drawing. It's all there. Almost. There has to be something left for the pro version. This is very impressive!

Google SketchUp Troubleshooting ReportConfused... - Version: 5.0.297, 8/2/2006 08:39AM PST

In the what's new above it says it now can use textures. It already was able to use textures.. what's new? I went to the SU site and also check the documentation but couldn't find what's new... just this texture thing that VT lists, which I'm wondering if that just an error since you already could use textures before?

Google SketchUp Commentary3D buildings.. for the rest of us. - Version: 5.0.296, 6/14/2006 12:22PM PST

This is a fun little program and well worth the downlaod given that it's free. I player around with it for 10 or 15 minutes and managed to make a mockup of my house.

There is a tutorial that runs you through the basics in easy to follow steps.

Unfortunately, Google SketchUp is not yet a Universal Binary but I'm sure it will be in future versions. However, it is a relatively small program and not too demnading on resources so it's very difficult to tell that it's actually running under Rosetta.

Nice one Google! Now we can all have 3D buildings.
