DAZ has made the current version available for download from Download.com through 6 September.

Caveat: The app hasn't been updated in a while. Does not run on Tiger (10.4).

I've used Bryce since it first rose from the plain, ocean or whatever you picked for the surface for my art. It is now faster and very stable and has enough options to keep you up late at night trying them all out. I render after going to bed and the image that greets me in the morning is always astonishing. Good work guys!

Bryce CommentaryNo upgrade path! - Version: 5.5, 5/13/2005 07:56AM PST

I've found Bryce to be a useful app. It's not as robust as some but yields nice effects with little effort. The render engine in 5.0 is pokey but it's affordable. Now with the promise of 5.5, I have just been informed by Eovia that there is no upgrade pricing and 5.5 is full retail. I bought Bryce. I paid to upgrade to 5.0 and now all of that counts for zip. I'm at square one. Bad move.

since v.2-I currently hold and dearly keep Bryce 3-D-it is perhaps the apex of the apps development;
At that version, you can create things that are ALMOST indistinguishable from photographs-especailly landscapes;
Starting with Bryce 4 and onwards, this ability was slowly bled away to the point that Bryce creations now look more cartoonish than realistic;

Metacreations was the heyday of this app;

Bryce Reviewcorel dropped the ball DAZ picked it up - Version: 5.01, 8/17/2004 04:43PM PST

I remember going off on several forums when corel jumped on the mettacreations applications.
Mettacreations was the all time time greatest company and group of minds that ever got together!
Kai's interfaces showed his genius for understanding both sides of the human/code fence
both sorely missed.
Too bad that far too many people didn't give them the cash
they needed to keep going.. we've all paid for it now.
Now that corel royally screwed up and dropped the bryce ball
Daz is IMO the best company to pick it up and take it home
- Back on the mac with all the corel blunders fixed.
Now they really need to move to make up for the lost years and bring bryce to where it should be.
Perhaps they can drop all the other apps and tools that they got a hold of as well...
If we could only be so lucky.

DAZ Productions now owns Bryce 5.
AND they're selling it for a discount for around $50 - but only through the end of today.
