xdrawchem Troubleshooting ReportSolution: XDrawChem 1.9.9 fails to launch - Version: 1.9.9, 12/12/2005 02:01AM PST

gentle persons,

due to some error the libz-luibrary version 1.2.2 (or higher) was not included in the XDrawCHem 1.9.9 installer. I'm deeply sorry for that. As of 12.12.05, 11:00h - please download a newly packed installer which includes this library via the provided download link. Again: I'm sorry for the inconvenience this might have caused.

I get the following error:
Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libz.1.2.2.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/xdrawchem199/xdrawchem.app/Contents/MacOS/xdrawchem
Reason: Incompatible library version: xdrawchem requires version 1.2.0 or later, but libz.1.2.2.dylib provides version 1.0.0

Downloaded and installed v 1.9.9 and it fails to run even though the previous version worked. Icon bounces in dock and then disappears. Yes, I have Trolltech QTMac 3.3.5 installed. Any ideas out there? 1.5 GHz 17in G4 Powerbook with 1.5 Gig memory installed, OSX 10.4.3.

xdrawchem CommentaryWorks with Tiger - Version: 1.9.4, 5/3/2005 02:28AM PST

MacRNF
v1.94 works with Tiger, so long as you have Qt/Mac3.3.4 installed as well. Qt/Mac3.3.4 can be downloaded from:
http://naranja.umh.es/~atg/
and follow the link to software

xdrawchem ReviewAn excellent start - Version: 1.9.3, 3/10/2005 09:59PM PST

A few minor tweaks, like making the application recognizable as an Application to Finder, making it drag-and-droppable (I was able to do this using Platypus so it must be possible), and building against static libraries or otherwise addressing the library issue posted below would help a lot.

I don't think the average user could (or would want to) do what I did to get this to run, but once it runs, it looks like it has great potential for liberating us from the evil monster that is ChemDraw.

Thanks for putting in the effort, and lest this sound too harsh, I am really grateful for the effort you have put into aquafying this, and making it available to users for free.

It would be nice if the QT binary distribution was really a binary distribution. I don't know their licensing restrictions, but perhaps that is why you have done it the way you have...?

Please keep up the great work.

xdrawchem Troubleshooting ReportHere's a problem and a fix - Version: 1.9.3, 3/10/2005 09:48PM PST

After compiling QT libs for hours on my G5, I finally fired up Xdrawchem and it didn't start.

The problem turns out to be that Xdrawchem depends on the threaded version of the dynamic library and the QT configure has it build only the non-threaded version by default. So I guess I need to go back, reconfigure, and build it again. Meanwhile, a symbolic link of the form

sudo ln -s /Developer/qt/lib/libqt.3.3.4.dylib /usr/lib/libqt-mt.3.dylib

allowed me to verify that the program works. I have the Xwindows version and I have chemdraw, so I can compare it to both of those. I haven't put it through its paces yet, but it looks pretty good. As with aquaTCLTK, the fonts appear to be too big for the buttons. Otherwise it looks like a very nice interface.

I'll build the threaded libraries and retest this, and get rid of the above symbolic link.

Wouldn't it be better to link to a static library for purposes of distributing the software?

xdrawchem Usage TipTrolltech's Qt framework IS NOT Apple Quicktime - Version: 1.9.2, 2/14/2005 06:42AM PST

slartibart
gentle persons,
as mentioned on the versiontracker, displayed by the installer, and readable in the included readme - for using xdrawchem you need an EXISTING installation of trolltech's QT C++ framework (version 3 or higher; THIS IS NOT QUICKTIME) on your computer. Use the link provided on versiontracker in "product requirements" of xdrawchem to download an installer of it. That's it. xdrawchem 1.9.2 runs happy on all flavours of MacOSX 10.3 if your computer system complies to this prerequisite.

Would not open in MAC OS 10.3.8, B/W G4, QT 6.5.2. I don't like that it was a package install either. How about an uninstall.
