Logitech QuickCam Usage TipLogitech with iChat - Version: 8.0.1, 4/13/2006 01:22PM PST

This driver works well with iChatUSBCam for iChat video conferencing. As another reviewer mentioned, there are also a variety of open source and 3rd party driver alternatives if this driver causes problems.

Logitech QuickCam CommentaryLogitech hates mac - Version: 8.0.1, 1/7/2006 04:21PM PST

From what I can see logitech is using the IOXperts driver in its most basic form. I have a QC 4000 on OS 10.4 and the best I can do is the video.. but none of the other features that come with the pro i.e. zoom, face following work. Ya I see a picture, but for the price.. Mac users.. Buy a iSight because logitech HATES MAC!!!! ps.. worst company ever.... pps old software.. 2003, and doesn't even support the QC 3000!!

I just got a QuickCam 3000 cheap from someone disappointed by Logitech's lack of System X support. Looking on the Web for third party drivers, I found the following. I'm currently using the Sourceforge driver and link, and Video Viewer, and will try the IOXpert driver when I upgrade (currently at 10.2.0).
=====
IOXperts Webcam Driver 1.1 for Mac OS X 10.2.8 or newer
Download the trial version for free. Buy it for $19.95.

-----
QuickCam Pro driver for Mac OS X
Download free, includes Quicktime app link
http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net
-----
also of interest:
Video Viewer for Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
works fine with the Sourceforge Quicktime app link
Download to try. $9 to buy. Can show in window, fullscreen, or as desktop!

Logitech QuickCam Usage TipQuickCam can be used w/ iChat - Version: 8.0.1, 5/23/2005 04:00PM PST

Logitech's Quickcam can be used for iChat AV with a third party driver. I use iChatUSBWebcam and it works fine. My only complaint using this on a mac is that I cannot connect to PC AIM users for video chats and it is in black and white.

Logitech QuickCam ReviewLogitech product is junk - Version: 8.0.1, 5/4/2005 03:43PM PST

Logitech's website was last updated for this product 2 years ago, which is unacceptable - and so is their non-existent technical support. You can get further advice by calling them at (702) 269-3457, on your dime of course.

This was a Christmas gift that I have yet to use.
If I'd known it was going to be so challenging to find software to run the thing, I would have returned the product immediately.

They claim it is OSX compatible but I guess that was applicable 2 years ago.

Logitech QuickCam ReviewUnstable and buggy - Version: 8.0.1, 4/8/2005 09:36PM PST

brushy--2008
Very unreliable with Yahoo Messenger. People claim that my camera always freezes, and it seems to stop working at random. The picture quality is decent, though. When is Logitech going to release an update? I don't want to spend another $80 on a camera if this one is obsolete.

Logitech QuickCam Review"This application requires a supported camera" - Version: 8.0.1, 1/9/2005 04:44AM PST

no web cam
I just got a Logitech Quickcam Messenger as a gift.

It came with Quickcam 8.0 drivers. Clearly labeled on the CD "Mac OS X". Inserted the CD, 2 folders, 1 for OS 10.1.x and the other for OS 10.2.x, I chose the latter.

After install, restarted. Opened the Quickcapture application and got the following message: "This application requires a supported camera". So I quit the program, attached the camera, and restarted the program. Same result. Tried downloading the newer driver. No. Tried trashing the app pref file. No. Tried repairing permissions. No. Tried the IOXperts driver. Said it couldn't find a supported camera. Camera shows up on the USB bus.

Here's the message from System Profiler:
LogitechQuickCam:

Logitech QuickCam ReviewCompletely satisfied - Version: 8.0.1, 11/28/2004 02:37PM PST

I'm happy. I use my LogiTech Notebook Pro with my PowerBook G4 and my sister with her iBook G3 400 MHz.

With iChatCAMUsb we can get 10+ picts/sec in a video conference across the atlantic. Not bad...not bad at all!

So forget all the negative feedback. They really work fine under 10.3.x. Just *don't* turn on Face tracking etc. That can cause chaos in iChat.

Other than that...great :)
