Jurtle ReviewSo far so good - Version: 1.4, 3/4/2004 07:42PM PST

I've made it through the first three lessons. I have tried learning java before from a book. So far Jurtle has been better than the books I tried to follow. It's good being able to read about the concepts and work in the program at the same time.

The developer was very prompt at clearing up problems I had.

The writing is quite good.

Jurtle ReviewHaven't tried the lessons yet, but so far... - Version: 1.2, 1/4/2004 08:12PM PST

Well done IDE, I've been looking for something that's simple yet Just Works. This does.

There's only a few interface quirks I've noted for potential improvement at this time.
- What would be useful for coding in general is an option in the Preferences that sets which command the apple-N key combo does: either a new turtle, a new class, or a new blank.
- I don't generally do Turtle work yet (want to finish a different project before I try out the lessons), so it would be advantageous if I could move the divider that separates the System.out and Drawing window areas on the Display tab all the way to the top of the visual space (it stops just short, leaving a gap). Being able to move it all the way to the bottom were I to expect no System.out writing could be similarly useful (ditto).
- A scrollbar appears across the bottom of the Edit window, regardless of whether or not I have code that extends the length of it - shouldn't it appear only when there's actually writing that extends beyond the window?

Jurtle Usage TipLink appears to work - Version: 1.2, 1/3/2004 07:37AM PST

schotti,

The link appears to be working for me at the present time. Is it possible you selected the older version from the popup menu on the page?

I would appreciate seeing more of your feedback after you have worked through the lessons.

Jurtle Troubleshooting Reportlink still downloads version 1.1... - Version: 1.2, 1/3/2004 04:04AM PST

...but the path to version 1.2 is the same apart from the number.

hard to rate this as long as one hasn't worked through all the examples and chapters, but from what i've seen so far, i like it!

This is the author.

I've gotten a fair number of downloads, but absolutely no feedback.
This was the case for my last beta also. I would really appreciate
some comments. Please either post them here, or you can email
me at jurtle@otherwise.com

Thanks
