Would like to capture precip info - Version: 2.1.5, 4/9/2004 06:03AM PST
Felix01
Any plan to capture precipitation info (rain as well as snow) and store those numbers for graphing?
Plus, the storage & graphing capability needs to be extended to a full year and include an export function for archiving (other than manually saving the three XML text files) to be really helpful.
And if precip data is included, also please incorporate the ability to track cumulative data between any two user selectable dates. For example, if I've faithfully tracked and archived a year's worth of my Buffalo, NY data, I'd like to be able to open up that archive file (full year, not merely 28 days) and find out the cumulative snowfall between Nov 15 and March 15. Or maybe the cumulative snowfall data for that last 48 hour storm.
Or the cumulative last 60 days of rainfall in West BeJesus, TX.
Anyway, you get the idea. You're presently capturing four pieces of data that all armchair meteorologists want but for some inexplicable reason you overlooked an absolutely critical parameter...precipitation. I assume that data is readily available since the shareware WeatherMan X presents it but, of course, that program has no storage and graphing capability which is what makes Kairos a standout in this niche market.

Minimised state - Version: 2.1.3, 2/9/2004 03:52AM PST

DavidR, you can always hide the application so that the window won't take all your screen estate. The dock will keep showing all details happily.
But I agree, I have suggested a while ago to have some sort of minimised state, so that the entire big window could shrink to a small window with stripped-down information.
Kairos is one of those apps which must be running all the time (otherwise what's the point?) and it is in fact on of the two reasons why my Mac at works is eft on permanently (the other being Timbuktu).
It's a great app, once a less intrusive display is introduced (either, as you suggest, by embedding the data in the menubar, or by having a small floating window) it will be just perfect.

Takes over the dock

This would be great as a menu item. This is something that I leave running in the background 24/7. I have to have the app icon in the dock, as well as the app window. It takes up too much space and it gets in the way of the stuff that I am working with at the moment.
If that issue were solved, the program would be worth having.

I have tried it out and paid for my licence within a day. It is a great application and the perfect companion to EarthBrowser, for all wanna-be meteorologists :-)
I have had a few problems with getting Kairos to send me emails, as I am behind a firewall. It seems partially sorted now, but I would like more flexibility in configuring the SMTP server(s).
Being able to archive the data beyond 28 days is also a near must, if one wants to track seasonal changes and do some climatic analysis, so maybe this is for the next version. And by the way, there no need to include relative humidity, as its a misleading piece of info (see http://www.shorstmeyer.com/wxfaqs/humidity/humidity.html)

Works well and as advertised. Look forward to more display flexibility (e.g., different parameters, such as relative humidity) in future updates, but still 5 stars overall because it's so useful and, as far as I can tell, bug-free.
Documentation could use a little work. When my Mac wakes up from sleep the program appears able to "catch up" on at least some lost data, but the documentation seems to say that all the lost data is merely extrapolated: "When your machine awakes, Kairos will calculate how long it was asleep for and fills the data set with the last known data for the length of the 'sleep' so the graphs maintain the timeline. [FAQ]" Thus, unless I'm not understanding something, the program appears to perform somewhat better than advertised.

to have the possibility of getting all the data evolution stored in a file with the hour attached to each record (like the one that appears bellow the graph window. The only way that i can get it it's to copy it from there)

do read the comments here. We are quite pleased with the feedback we have had. Quite a few of user suggestions are already in progress or planned for future releases. We'll post the updates as soon as they are available. Rest assured we are working hard on Kairos. We'd love to get more feature suggestions - to ensure we actually see them we suggest sending them to kairos_support@lightsoft.co.uk. We do read every one and try to reply to as many as possible. Regards, Rob & Stu @ Lightsoft

add the ability to display a smoothed trend line for each of the measurements, and a switch so that you can display either the actual readings, the trend, or both superimposed one on the other in different colours. Is anyone at Lightsoft listening, by the way?

a great little application, nicely implemented. It's not perfect though - here are a couple of suggestions: 1. Allow user to select different units for different categories. eg I would like Deg C for temp but MPH for windspeed. If the data is only provided from the source in metric or imperial then a conversion factor could be used. 2. The numerical values of the divisions on the graph are rather weird, which makes interpreting the data a bit less straightforward than it should be. And why in particular is there no horizontal line for 0 deg C?? 3. Provide a way to print the graphs - I was rather shocked when I went to print and ended up with reams of paper full of the raw data collected since I first purchased Kairos, but no graphs.
As for precipitation info - believe it or not no one has requested it until now! (and obviously we were too stupid (-: ) Obviously we need a data source with rainfall/snowfall as a metric - but I guess if "WeatherMan X" gets it then so can we.
Exporting is also something that we've recently had requested - so are considering it for some future version.
Minimising the display - yes I personnally use hide - but maybe some sort of mini-window would be helpful ... we'll think about it (ideas welcome).
Kairos really is a user driven product. Let us know what you want! Feel free to send feedback or feature requests to kairos_support@lightsoft.co.uk
