Buddy Retriever ReviewThis is really excellent. - Version: 1.01, 5/14/2004 02:30PM PST

I'm a major news junkie. This won't necessarily replace my RSS readers but it is a great complement. It would be nice if disabling a module would also disable the page. I don't track stocks or slippers but I still get a blank stock page and a page full of slippers! Thanks for a great app. Looking forward to future development.

Buddy Retriever Troubleshooting ReportBuddy fetches, but won't open the paper - Version: 1.0, 5/11/2004 12:59AM PST

I downloaded and enjoyed the older version (O.6.2) of Buddy Retriever, but lost track of it as snazzier apps like Watson and NetNewsWire came along. Still, I was glad to read that Buddy Retriever had been dramatically updated.

...Perhaps a little too dramatically. I can change preferences and observe Buddy fetching all the requested info-but the "open paper" button does nothing. Let go of the paper, Buddy! Bad doggie!

My guess is that this is a small bug that the developer can fix quickly. Glad to see an old favorite updated, and I hope to use a fixed version soon.

BTW--am using Quicksilver 976 MHz G4, 768 MB SDRAM, OS X 10.3.3, default terminal settings...

Buddy Retriever ReviewWOW! What an improvement! - Version: 1.0, 5/10/2004 07:04PM PST

Let's look at my previous suggestions:

1. This folder should go in ~/Library/Application Support where it belongs and it should be installed automatically by the application. -- DONE

2. Downloading dozens of comic strips that I don't want. -- FIXED

3. Downloading news from sources I don't want. -- FIXED

4. Opening a Terminal window -- and not closing it when it's done. -- FIXED

Talk about responsive to feedback! Absolutely remarkable. I really like this app now. If truth be told and if it were up to me, all of this would happen within a self-contained application a la iComic, but until that happens I'll settle for this. Very nice work!

I really like this app. I see great potential for it. However, I don't want it to do a few things that it does currently:

1. Requiring me to place a folder directly in my home directory. This folder should go in ~/Library/Application Support where it belongs and it should be installed automatically by the application.

2. Downloading dozens of comic strips that I don't want.

3. Downloading news from sources I don't want.

4. Opening a Terminal window -- and not closing it when it's done. These tasks can be accomplished in the background without opening Terminal.

What would be REALLY nice is to reinvent this as a preference pane and have it do its work automatically without my having to launch the app and tell it to go to work.

I'm not trying to be negatively critical but offer constructive criticism that can improve the app. Great concept, but I'm not 100% thrilled with the implementation.

Buddy Retriever Troubleshooting ReportSame problem... - Version: 0.6.2, 7/4/2003 01:31PM PST

I put the prefs folder in my home directory, but it appears to not be able to see it. I'm not sure why, but I'm willing to help troubleshoot with guidance.

I ~think~ the $HOME variable isn't being written or read properly.

just GREAT! I am blast. Lost one star because the terminal thing should be hidden and replace by a strip telling the download and the tricky folder to put in the RIGHT place. Also I wish to have the same for France (well, I am living there) and other country. Please put some of the Buddy Software inside too. Except these little things it's just great.
