What are the benefits of this software over primer3 and other things that are available for free on the web?
If you are a beginner or an expert in primer design you will find it very rewarding

Oligo 7 is very easy to use and also has great flexibility in various search parameters, so if you are a beginner or an expert in primer design you will find it very rewarding. It has several features not related to primers design, so there is little left to classify it as a general DNA/RNA lab software, and those competitive software packages are prices often twice as high as this one.
Oligo - Best of its class

There is nothing like Oligo for primer design, being the best hands down. If time and productivity are your priorities, look no further. Besides, Oligo is a pleasure to use!

ridiculous price. Many of the features are available on the net as free services by the known molecular biology web sites. In addition, experienced eyes often outperform those programs on finding the best primers :-)
Sticking with 4.0 also.

I've been using 4.0 for years and to me 700 megs of Classic OS more than offsets $1,200. Even the academic upgrade (i.e. just to run in OSX) from 4->6 for $424 (w/S&H) borders on the ludicrous.
this, like most commercial biological software. . . - Version: 6.84, 11/11/2003 10:06AM PST

has a ridiculous price. a thousand dollars?! crazy. soon somebody will create a free or open source version of something similar to this. . .

quite good (I have used it in a rich laboratory) but we are keeping our old 6100 around to run version 4. There is no way we are dropping that kind of money on an oligo program.

old version (version 4.0) of this software in my lab since a long time and it is a very useful and efficient tool for molecular biologists. But when we see the price to work with the OS X version, we wonder if it will be better to dedicate an old mac to the old version rather than to pay such a price. five stars for the software but one star for the price
