Christian_Franz_653netTunes provides a very nice 'vnc-like' updating control interface showing you the 'real' iTunes that is controlled remotely. A small issue is that when a screen saver is active, you will initially see this screensaver instead of the iTunes interface.
The manual could be a bit more elaborate when using the software with a firewall, as the software goes into the 'spinning pizza of death' when the server's port (on the server) is blocked. OK, actually, the manual could be a little bit more elaborate, period.
Other than that it runs very nicely. I recommend it for everone with more than one Mac, and a central music server based (partly) on iTunes.

What netTunes brings to the party - Version: 2.1.1(999), 9/16/2004 06:22AM PST

If the remote machine is hooked to your stereo directly, has its own speakers, or is broadcasting over AirPort Express, netTunes will let you control its interface remotely.
So, you can easily sleep your local machine and still enjoy the music that plays from the server -- and still fully control it, using iTunes' own interface, when you need to.
Hope that helps to explain a bit more. Give it a try -- the demo is fully functional for 30 minutes at a time (just restart the server preference pane to get another 30 minutes), so you can try all of netTunes' features and see if you like it.
But... doesn't Rendezvous let you do this anyway? - Version: 2.1.1(999), 9/16/2004 01:54AM PST

sarletIf I'm using the iBook in the bedroom, I can use/control the iTunes library and playlists that live on the iMac in the sitting room without any extra software. Does this bring something extra to the party?
BTW - I'm no knocking the software, after all I haven't tried it, I am just looking for info here.
Read the FAQ on Shirtpocket's discussion page if you're using a firewall and get a spinning ball -- simple fix.
If you want to remotely control iTunes, this is the best I've seen. I've used a few programs on a Palm and a Windows Mobile cell phone and both were buggy and frustrating to install and use. After two days of using netTunes, its seamless, responds quickly and completely stable.
Good, the Squeezebox goes in the trash where it should have gone years ago.
