This is a very simple to install and use app. Along the lines of SuperDuper - simple and bullet proof.

Read the FAQ on Shirtpocket's discussion page if you're using a firewall and get a spinning ball -- simple fix.

If you want to remotely control iTunes, this is the best I've seen. I've used a few programs on a Palm and a Windows Mobile cell phone and both were buggy and frustrating to install and use. After two days of using netTunes, its seamless, responds quickly and completely stable.

Good, the Squeezebox goes in the trash where it should have gone years ago.

This is the worst shareware I have ever tried, if you do not purchase the software it will screw up your connection with Airport Express. Do not download unless you plan to buy. The default shuts off your connection every 30 minutes (so it says) it now turns off my connection every 5 minutes. I had to uninstall and then reboot (believe it or not) for my itunes to work again with my airport express.

Very angry at this developer.

Ingenious little solution to controlling an iTunes on one computer via any other computer on the network. I've been using it for two years, and it really works well for me. My setup is an iMac that holds the music library, which I control, via airport, from my laptop across the room. I use it all the time, and it's been steady and reliable for me. Developer replies to inquires, including tips to configure the firewall settings to make it work (an issue that wasn't covered well in the documentation).

I like it. It works for me. Playing off a pismo G3 powerbook MP3 server to Aiport Espress. I control it from all 4 house computers - no problems.

netTunes ReviewBuggy with Desktop Manager - Version: 2.2(1003), 7/4/2005 07:36AM PST

Doesn't seem to play well with virtual desktops. iTunes needs to be the frontmost application in a active desktop window, this gets weird for me because i have 2 displays on the server. Switching desktops causes the netTunes server crash everytime. Overall not very stable on 10.4.1 at all. Lower the price or update!!!

netTunes ReviewBrilliant piece of software, small bugs - Version: 2.1.1(999), 3/28/2005 07:24AM PST

Very ingenious! I always wanted to remotely control iTunes running on my stereo's Mac mini (which serves up our music, both for SLIMP3 and AirTunes). I now can control it from everywhere in the house - from my workdesk, or my Laptop on the terasse (yeah, we have an outside airport extreme installation).

netTunes provides a very nice 'vnc-like' updating control interface showing you the 'real' iTunes that is controlled remotely. A small issue is that when a screen saver is active, you will initially see this screensaver instead of the iTunes interface.

The manual could be a bit more elaborate when using the software with a firewall, as the software goes into the 'spinning pizza of death' when the server's port (on the server) is blocked. OK, actually, the manual could be a little bit more elaborate, period.

Other than that it runs very nicely. I recommend it for everone with more than one Mac, and a central music server based (partly) on iTunes.

netTunes Usage TipAn ideal usage for netTunes - Version: 2.1.1(999), 1/27/2005 12:14PM PST

At our office we have a print server for outputing RIP files to an inkjet printer - it also runs netTunes, doubling as the office 'jukebox'. Every staff member gets a chance to DJ our music that plays throughout the office from their own workstation... though we have limited some client installations on certain machines where the operater has exhibited poor music taste! ;)

netTunes Usage TipWhat netTunes brings to the party - Version: 2.1.1(999), 9/16/2004 06:22AM PST

While iTunes does (now) have 'playlist sharing', which allows you to actually play the music on another machine locally (something another product of ours -- launchTunes -- helps with), it doesn't allow you to control iTunes itself on the remote machine.

If the remote machine is hooked to your stereo directly, has its own speakers, or is broadcasting over AirPort Express, netTunes will let you control its interface remotely.

So, you can easily sleep your local machine and still enjoy the music that plays from the server -- and still fully control it, using iTunes' own interface, when you need to.

Hope that helps to explain a bit more. Give it a try -- the demo is fully functional for 30 minutes at a time (just restart the server preference pane to get another 30 minutes), so you can try all of netTunes' features and see if you like it.

netTunes CommentaryBut... doesn't Rendezvous let you do this anyway? - Version: 2.1.1(999), 9/16/2004 01:54AM PST

I've got an Airport Express on order, I haven't tried this proggie yet. The thing that confuses me is, what is the benefit of using this over the built-in iTunes sharing over Rendezvous?

If I'm using the iBook in the bedroom, I can use/control the iTunes library and playlists that live on the iMac in the sitting room without any extra software. Does this bring something extra to the party?

BTW - I'm no knocking the software, after all I haven't tried it, I am just looking for info here.

Very easy to set up and Works perfect from the start with Panther 10.3.4 and iTunes 4.5 on a Dual 1.25 G4 and older Lombard G3 PowerBook. All shareware should be this good. Best iTunes Remote.
