- it's simple and does only one thing, but it does that very well. I keep its little floating window open all the time

this is nothing, its a 3 line AppleScriptStudio application. I didn't know of the alternatives so now I'll check them out. But, I did release this for free, and it is pretty lightweight, so that is my defense,
It does work,…

but does not have many features. Have you guys seen 'shadowGoogle', that has much more features, and runs in a floating window, plus you can hide its icon in the dock. http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=15252&db=mac

that's something worthy of a place in the dock.

but it needs a little work too. If it's going to be in the dock, it should have a nice icon, not the ugly generic "app" icon. Also, there are other utilities that do the same thing, like ShadowGoogle. However, I like that this "bar" is much easier to grab and move around than ShadowGoogle, so you gat a star for that. It is strange though that when in this, there are NO menu items in the menubar. Only way to quit is to control-click it;s icon in the dock. Just fix those problems and you'll get more stars.
It works --…

opens a new window in the default browser with Google results --, it's free, and it's small. But this app doesn't have any way to quit. I can get the sam effect just by making Google the home page in System Preferences->Internet->Web. So if I open a new page (or click the Home icon in a browser toolbar) I can pose a Google query. And I don't have to put another icon in the dock.
