Adobe Fireworks CS4 CommentaryNeed New Feedback - Version: 10.0.3, 5/6/2009 08:28AM PST

We need new feedback here on recent releases. Does anyone have helpful information about the latest Fireworks? I use Photoshop and Flash instead, chiefly for web work these days, and would like to know if recent releases, in your opinion, merit spending time to learn Fireworks.
Thanks!

MX 2004 is a RAM hog and is the only graphics program that can't seem to work with a stylus pen. HUH??? Macromedia is also just plain incapable of getting the WACOM pad and the application to work.
MX 2004 just churns on memory too, and does not seem to provide anything new to make it worth it. It hangs on text selection, it takes about 30% longer to do stuff now. I hate to say this, but its TERRIBLE. Don't bother until the patch is available...

... but possibly the worst programming on the planet. I have dodgy shareware that performs better than this application. Macromedia should pull their finger out and get a decent version of this app out of the door: it needs to be fast, reliable and worth the money they charge for the suite (in which DW is also a pile of c*** performance-wise). We repeatedly create files that work fine for ages, then suddenly take up to 15 minutes to open, corrupt some typeface rendering, then become completely unworkable.

The best toolset of screen-targeted layout by far, but boy does Macromedia need to hire some decent programmers and QA staff. Some that had used a Mac before would be nice too.

Adobe Fireworks CS4 CommentaryThe Wacom Tablet nightmare - Version: 7.0.2, 10/20/2004 10:24AM PST

I have been using this product ever since version one. I'm sad to say I'm not impressed at all by the way Macromedia has been handling the development over the years. More features, More bugs, less usable. I too see the Beach ball to often and it crashes randomly. My biggest complaint however is to do with my tablet. I CAN use it in flash and Dreamweaver but not in Fireworks. Has anyone else had this problem?
flick.

Adobe Fireworks CS4 ReviewMacromedia has dropped the ball again... - Version: 7.0.2, 3/12/2004 06:18AM PST

This was once a unique and truly great piece of software. It's still unique (ImageReady is amazingly unflexible compared to this vector/bitmap combo) but for a long time it has been very very very frustrating to use. Ever since the port to OS X it's been fantastically slow and filled with weird bugs. This new version is still like that. i don't notice any 'performance improvements', on the contrary: it still takes up to 5 or 10 seconds for the program to realise you've clicked on something else and that maybe maybe maybe it should refresh the related info in the Properties palette. This is only one example of many things that do not go the way they should go. Fireworks MX 2004 is loaded with great features, it's a killer app waiting to happen but right now it's beta software and it has been for the last two years. I wish Adobe would step up to the plate, it doesn't seem like Macromedia is interested in Mac OS X anymore...

Adobe Fireworks CS4 CommentaryOpen Incident with FireworksMX2004 still not resolved - Version: 7.0.1, 12/7/2003 09:22AM PST

I first reported a problem (an odd one where a very simple element built in FWMX2004 cannot be saved reliably -- involving a canvas of specific dimensions) in late September/early October when they first released the new version. There was an exchange of emails; I sent a file. I was told almost two months ago it was handed over to a Senior Engineer who would be contacting me, but never did.

The update does not resolve the problem. I continue to have to use FireWorksMX (v.6.x) for a major project... They seem stumped. I'm pissed about a fractional loss of money for a StudioMX 2004 upgrade which is partly unusable...

In all other respects the product (installation, use, etc.) seems fine, but it's not usable for me.

Adobe Fireworks CS4 ReviewUpdater STINKS - Version: 7.0.1, 12/3/2003 01:47PM PST

The updater runs on half of our systems without problems. Completely beachballs the other half, forcing a HARD reboot, and never performing the update.

Crashes during a "search of the hard drive". What exactly do they need to search the whole hard drive for?

Crashes hard regardless of normal user, clean user, root user, extensions and startups disabled... Bad. This needs to be cleaned-up Macromedia! The tools are far too expensive to not be able to use them!

This what should have ship in the first place. But, all-well.... Launches in about haft the time, opens files 3 or 4 time faster, and best of all... It know longer use 20% to 30% all of the time. Even when I'm working in another app. If you use Photoshop and Illustrator, This is one app you should take for a spin. Daul 1.25 with 2 GB of ram.

BTW: Even if you have already registered, do it again! Macromedia had a few extras Extension for you to download. but only for about another or so.

Tried to update, got the very vague "an error has prevented the installation process" error message... And now my version 7.0 is broken. When I launch Fireworks I get "Application Launch Failure The application "Fireworks" could not be launched because of a shared library error:" Now I have to do a complete reinstall. God Bless you Macromedia! No wonder I prefer Adobe products.
