The best Par utility for the Mac says the previous reviewer

In fact it seems to be the ONLY such tool and...it just flat out no longer works. At least 90% of the time not. I agree, it used to be damned cool but, in OSX 10.5.6 it does nothing. Even the quit menu command is greyed out so a Force Quit is the order of the day after trying in vain once again to get it to do its tricks.

Invalid checksums - Version: 3.7, 11/19/2007 03:51AM PST

V. 3.7 gives on almost all my downloads 'invalid checksums - cannot recover' both under Leopard (10.5.1 on a Macbook Pro) and under Tiger (10.4.11 on a Powerbook 12"). I have used MacPAR deLuxe for almost three years now and haven't seen this before. Definitely something wrong here.
At this point I can only recommend it for 10.4.10 and lower.

Leopard? What about 10.4.11 - Version: 3.7, 11/17/2007 08:54PM PST

I think OSX 10.4.11 also breaks MacPAR Deluxe. It might be coincidence but the tool has not worked for me on the dozen or more occasions I've tried to use it, since upgrading.

Hey, any ideas if or when this is going to support Leopard?
MPD contains par2cmdline - Version: 3.7, 10/21/2007 09:33PM PST

Are people aware that MPD doesn't do it's own par processing? It contains an embedded, uncredited (<-GPL violation) copy of par2cmdline - and not even the recent version! If you use par2cmdline 0.4, it is actually *better* at doing the job. All MPD really adds is the GUI. If you are at all comfortable with using the Terminal, I recommend switching to par2cmdline 0.4.
Since I've been teaching myself Objective C & Cocoa lately, for a PAR2 related project, I'm considering a project to address the flaws in MPD. Just not sure how long it will take me to get up to speed (this is my first OOP work, my degree being all procedural languages). Of course, Objective C may not be the best choice, it's just what I choose to start learning OOP with.

File association problems - Version: 3.7, 9/22/2007 06:54AM PST

One really annoying thing I've noticed about version 3.7 is that it hogs file associations. Once it's installed, it takes over associations for files with Par2 and split (such as .001) extensions. The first isn't bad, although it's annoying. I can manually change one Par2 file to use another program, but if I try to change all files of that type, MacPar instantly grabs it back. The latter is very annoying as MacPar can't handle split files. They're supposed to go to Split & Concat. Apparently, the developer just assumes that we will repair before concatenating, but that's not correct, as many people create Par2 files before splitting, so we have to join before repairing. In other words, I have to manually launch Split & Concat instead of just double-clicking on the .001 file to do the same. Pain in the neck. The only way I know of to eliminate the bad file associations is to delete MacPar from my system, but then I can't create Par2 files.
100% CPU for nothing

It does the job when you have all the parts. But if any of the parts are missing and you don't have enough par2 files, it spins the wheels taking up 100% CPU trying to do nothing.
Quiting the app doesn't kill the par process it uses, still taking the 100% CPU unitl nobody knows when. Have to manually kill the process.
Not very well thought out.

An excellent program!
If I need to join files I just open up Parallels and use a less nagging application to accomplish the task.
And Gerard -- Since it isn't actually a donation you are seeking, but a compulsory financial tribute, you ought to seriously consider a little truth in advertising in your nags.
