Diablotin ReviewExcellent utility to manage system extensions - Version: 1.3, 6/29/2009 02:15PM PST

Eric van Beest
Diablotin is simply an excellent utility for those who "need" to manage their installed base of preference panes, startup items, fonts, contextual menu items and the like. Normal users can enable and disable items installed in their user accounts, and with an administrator account you can toggle those in the Library folder (and even the System folder if you like).

Diablotin is over two years old now, and the fact that it still works is testament to the quality of the programming. But then, if it works...why fix it. And really, I can't think of features I would need to see extra in this.

If you regularly try out new extensions (preference panes, contextual menu items, etc.) you need this. It's free. It's great. No doubt about it.

Diablotin ReviewSuperb piece of bits - Version: 1.3, 10/13/2008 07:09AM PST

I was able to turn off all the junk I implanted into my system during the endless experimentation. Safe to use, lets you undo actions. Every Mac geek should install it, saves time on digging with Finder or Terminal.

For frustrated males with unhealthy addictions to their computers, programs like this are simply irresistible. Thanks to Diablotin, I can change things around that I probably shouldn't be messing with, and create all sorts of havoc and mayhem that takes me days, weeks, or even months to resolve. Highly recommended.

Diablotin Usage TipDiablotin on Intel Macs - Version: 1.2.8, 5/19/2006 02:07PM PST

For those wishing to use Diablotin on an Intel Macintosh, and, I imagine, later (i.e. G5) Macs in general, try downloading the source and compile it fresh in Xcode. There are a few minor nits in the building though it should complete successfully.

Diablotin ReviewDo not install, will destabilize your system - Version: 1.2.8, 9/5/2005 01:17PM PST

I've installed this little app and deactivated a few system preferences, then activated them again but they didn't show up anymore. Further inquiry showed that they were gone for good. Additionally, since I've installed Diablotin, the Spotlight menu doesn't react anymore to clicks and the shortcut only inverts the icon but doesn't bring up its interface. Beware.

This is an example of one of those utilities that provides services which common sense tells you should have been built-in to the OS, instead of being provided by a third-party app. This is absolutely essential.

Developer, please add support for /Library/Bundles and ~Library/Bundles, which is where non-standard Menu Extras are stored, such as those loaded by MenuCracker (examples would be SoundSource and Sound Menu).
