Downloaded Crypt3 and tested on data files, PDF files, Excel files, and photos. Running OS X (10.4.7) Worked as intended. Will buy and add to my USB sticks so I can encrypt data which I carry. Some files say that a resource fork is being removed but was able to de-encrypt the file just fine. You can rename the encrypted file as long as you only change the portion of the new file name which matches the originally encrypted file. I am very satisfied with the performance of this program.

Was looking for an easy to use application to encrypt files. This is it. Doesn't need a manual, doesn't need extra info. I've been trying with numerous files and folders. Of all sizes and sorts. It works. And it works good. I do question the stability of any of such app: when something is encrypted and you can't decrypt in the future, you're fooling yourself. This app looks like it does the trick. My worry is the continuity of the app itself and the compatibility with future OS's. Now working with OSX10.4.6. Seems stable.

Tested Crypt2 four or five times. Encrypted a .zip file (around 100 MB). When trying to decrypt I got no error message but a very small and corrupted .zip file. So the data are completely lost.

The latest version of this software available is the version and date showing. None of the supposed later versions (all 7 of them) are available. Download it and see! I even went to the developer's site. The site shows an outdated version, as well.
Simple and great!

Wow, glad i've found this one: A simple and easy to use tool to email encrypted files without all the Certification hassle. Just attach the enrypted file plus Crypt2 and phone the password.

A simple, easy-to-use app that does exactly what it says, without a clunky interface or any other nuisances.

All of Steve Dekorte's software is very simple and easy to use. You can be a new Mac user, open one of his applications, and immediately know what to do.
It's simple, powerful, and Cocoa.

But...
The licensing scheme is per 'machine.' If you purchase a new computer, or get your logic board replaced, you have to buy another license. The author says it is the only way to eliminate pirating, but I feel that is bogus. Sure it is a relatively inexpensive utility, but it is not that superior to the many encrypting shareware programs at comparable cost. There may be other shareware that use this license format, (although I do not know of any,) but it is far from an acceptable standard. Computer users have come to expect that they can transfer their software to their new computer. Can you imagine if all software was licensed to a single machine? The cost of buying a new computer, and all new software, would be many thousands more.
