Does this work with iPhone GPS? If not it's worthless to me...

MacGPS Pro CommentaryPersonal developer support - Version: 8.4, 9/30/2009 01:49PM PST

As a new user I was very pleasantly suprised at the personal support I got directly from the developer when having a problem with imported map calibration. This is becoming increasingly uncommon in a world dominated by either automated email responses or phone helplines that are never answered. Thank you Larry.

MacGPS Pro CommentaryBarely Improved - Version: 8.4, 8/8/2009 11:22AM PST

Mikofox
Developer claims in his upgrade email:
Many Interface Improvements such as: The map window position, size, and scale are preserved when using Auto-Open to switch maps across UTM zone boundaries.

That's fine and dandy, but how about fixing window position between quitting and opening of the application? Or when resizing the map window to full screen that the window does not move under the menu bar? Also wouldn't it be nice if the application would remember the settings one checks of under 'View'? Or generally more use of standard Mac OSX keyboard shortcuts.

I really think it's time to fix these problems.

MacGPS Pro ReviewMacGPS Pro version 8 works with Australian ECW maps - Version: 8.3, 12/26/2008 04:00PM PST

I don't know what the previous poster is saying. As of version 8.0, MacGPS Pro imports my Australia's ECW-formatted map files. I had placed a request for support of these maps a while ago, and the developer responded. What more can I ask for? This program works flawlessly.

Good job!

MacGPS Pro CommentaryDeveloper's Myopia - Version: 8.3, 12/26/2008 03:05AM PST

As lovely as this application appears - it is very limited in its scope if use. It reminds me of a map I saw years ago, where the entire world was on the map but 99.99 % of the world was the USA.

I am sure that this product would sell like hotcakes ALL OVER THE WORLD. There are more Mac users outside of the US than inside. (fun fact to know, aye).

I have a Garmin that this would work great with; however, I do not need USA maps - I need Australia and Asia and Europe and ...

Get the picture?

Or is this restricted because of the potential of nefarious usage outside the land of the supposed free and home of the timid? (Haven't impeached Schrub or Mr. Waterboard yet or ever!)

Steps down from soapbox...

Seriously, I really think the product looks great but for the limited times I am in the US, why would I want it?

I am thinking that I have a very good GPS antenna: I found it trought Mac GPSPro.
Anyway, I am thinking that the "interface" between the antenna and mac could be the difference.

MacGPS Pro ReviewMacGPS Pro - One of my all-time favorite applications - Version: 7.6.0, 3/22/2008 09:42PM PST

I've used MacGPS Pro for quite a few years and watched it's capabilities grow along with that of the Macs on which it runs. Other mapping programs have come and mostly gone but Dr. James has always kept McGPS Pro up-to-date with the Mac OS and ever changing lines of GPS receivers. I go back a long way and can remember a time before there were personal computers and when my mapping was done on printed quadrangles. As time went on I purchased a Garmin 38 and some digitized quadrangles on CD from the USGS that I could view on my new Powerbook. Things didn't come together however until I purchased MacGPS and suddenly I could calibrate my quadrangles and view my Garmin's waypoints and tracks on these quads with my Pismo. I could even attach my Garmin to my laptop and display my moving position. I was hooked. Todays faster Macs allow MacGPS Pro to have even more powerful features such as tiling multiple quads or (as of the 7.6 update) tiling quads with different datums. You don't even have to calibrate your quadrangles anymore, with MacTopos you can have a complete set of calibrated quads for any U.S. state. There is talk now of new mobile Macs and I can't help but wonder if Dr. James will get MacGPS to run on these. Some reviewers have criticized MacGPS Pro for not adhering to Apple's "User Interface Guidelines" or for omitting certain features and while these concerns are often valid in my mind they pale in comparison to what MacGPSPro can do. I know of no other good alternative to MacGPS Pro on the Mac and few on Windows and so feel very fortunate that Dr. James has maintained it so well for so long. If you want to route a trip along America's highways get a TomTom or NuVi but if you want to see what's beyond those highways get MacGPS Pro.

MacGPS Pro CommentarySorry...! - Version: 7.5, 12/27/2007 02:09PM PST

A bit fast off the mark. The upgrade link appeared in my inbox a few minutes ago and I just downloaded version 7.5. Also a very fast note of explanation from Dr. James himself arrived.

I am truly sorry for giving such a hair-trigger response.

Now, time to whip out my Garmin and enjoy MacGPS Pro 7.5...
