Product Description:

MacGPS Pro is Mac software for communicating with GPS Receivers and viewing your position on moving digital maps and nautical charts. These images can be viewed with no GPS receiver connected or used in real-time as a moving-map display of your current position and velocity.
  • It imports maps from a wide variety of sources in the following formats: TIFF (TIF), JPEG (JPG), GIF, PNG, PICT, BMP, Photoshop (PSD), PDF, and ECW.
  • It manually calibrates and imports maps that you scan yourself.
  • It imports nautical charts in Maptech BSB (v.1, v.2, v.3, v.4, v.5) format.
  • It supports NMEA 0183 input from all serial port, Bluetooth, and USGlobalSat USB receivers.
  • It graphically generates and edits Waypoints, Routes, and Tracks for two-way transfer between your Mac and many Garmin and Magellan Serial Port and USB Receivers.
  • It exchanges data with Google Earth.
  • It imports Waypoints from Geocaching files.
  • It imports and exports Waypoints, Routes, and Tracks in the GPX interchange format used by other GPS programs.
  • It shows elevation profiles.
  • It prints maps.

What's new in this version:

  • Adds a "Startup Items" folder where you can place map, waypoint, track, route, and gpx files. These will then open automatically when MacGPS Pro starts. Quite a time saver!
  • Adds labels when printing a map. The MacGPS Pro-generated grid lines are now labeled in the margins for the UTM grid and for all of the National Grids.
  • Adds to the list of available datums: Greek GGRS87, Luxembourg LUREF, several different countries using GRS80, New Zealand NZGD2000, and Sweden SWEREF 99.
  • Adds to the list of available map projections: Greek Grid, Irish Grid (ITM), Italian Gauss-Boaga Grid Zone 1, Italian Gauss-Boaga Grid Zone 2, Luxembourg LUREF Grid, New Zealand TM 2000 Grid, and Swedish SWEREF 99 Grid.
  • Adds the ability to read CompeGPS ".imp" georeferencing files for UTM and Lat/Long maps.
  • Adds Depth and Distance columns to saved MacGPS Pro track files. Adds a Depth column to the main-window display of tracks. Adds a "Show Track Depths" item to the View menu. Reads the depth field from NMEA data and track-transfers for those Garmin GPS receivers with depth sounders.
  • Adds "Select None" to the Edit menu. This menu item unselects whatever you have selected.
  • Changes the "New Route" function so that clicking on a waypoint instantly adds that waypoint to the route.
  • Imports the Land Information New Zealand Topo250 and Topo50 maps as New Zealand TM 2000 National Grid maps, making them easier to use than the generic UTM maps.

MacGPS Pro CommentaryPersonal developer support - Version: 8.4, 9/30/2009 01:49PM PST

As a new user I was very pleasantly suprised at the personal support I got directly from the developer when having a problem with imported map calibration. This is becoming increasingly uncommon in a world dominated by either automated email responses or phone helplines that are never answered. Thank you Larry.
