Adobe Reader ReviewWhat do I need this for? - Version: 9.0, 7/29/2008 01:27PM PST

Update process is way too confusing and cumbersone. Besides,I can't see where Adobe Reader does anything Preview can't do. And Preview's interface is much better. I see no reason to install this.

Adobe Reader CommentaryDo you really need this program on a Mac? - Version: 9.0, 7/14/2008 04:21PM PST

The one thing I have not really understood is since you can "print" a PDF from a Mac since at least 10.3 just what use is Acrobat pro; especially as Adobe seems to treat its customers as a cross between a red headed stepchild and a whipping boy.

As far as a reader is concerned take a look at Skim, an open source PDF reader, which seems to do everything Adobe Reader does and does it a LOT better.

Adobe Reader ReviewAcrobat 9 Pro = Lots of Problems - Version: 9.0, 7/9/2008 12:19PM PST

I just upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro from Acrobat 8 Professional.

Some of the features that DID work are NOW BROKEN:

• The PDF Maker floating palette in MS-Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) no longer work. Clicking the PDF icon to create a PDF from your document does nothing.

• From within Acrobat 9 Pro, the *basic function* to create a PDF from a file (File—> Create PDF—> From File, then select *any* MS-Office document (.doc, .docx, .wks, .xls, etc.) results in an error that states the file type is NOT supported.

• I spoke with Adobe Tech Support who confirmed that the *only* way to create a PDF from an Office document is to PRINT to the Adobe 9 Printer driver. (less than intuitive)

So it appears that functions and features that worked just fine in Acrobat 8 Professional, are now broken with this update.

ABSURD! Why release an upgrade that doesn't work with the (by far) most popular and pervasive MS-Office software?!

More and more I am disappointed with Adobe's products and support for the Mac OSX platform.
